Skateboarding, which has always had a renegade name for itself, is carving its way into mainstream via Japan as it makes it Olympic debut at the Tokyo 2020 Games.
Nike have announced they will be outfitting three skate teams this summer, France, USA, and Brazil, who will be wearing uniforms designed by Dutch artist Piet Parra.
Parra, a frequent Nike collaborator who has designed some of the brands most popular Air Max, has created colourful pieces with each of the teams culture in mind. Each look is intended to be unique to the country’s style and intended to pay homage to its sporting history.
The French uniform takes inspiration from tennis, the Brazilian’s from football, while the USA’s gear looks to basketball.
Each uniform is made with sustainability in mind using 100% recycled polyester and is made by using more environmentally conscious manufacturing processes.
The Olympics will be held this summer, 24 July – 9 August, in Tokyo, Japan.
